So, in the past camping may have been all about "escape" or in other words, no power, no internet, no electronics. Well, camping that way is no longer the only way. I stumbled across this new solar powered tent that turns solar energy into electric power so we can keep our portable dvd players and cell phones charged while being one with nature. Not only does this tent create power, but it also has a tracking device! So say you are on a hike and get lost.. well you use send a signal to your tent and tell it to "glow more"so it becomes more visible and easier to find.
I don't know if I think this tent would be useful or if I find it more humorous. I'm not really sure how well this would take on because the people who go camping do go to get away from these things. Would this invention create a new market of "sophisticated campers"?? It is an interesting concept..

I thought this was interesting but agree with your skepticism on the usefulness of the product. While I think the use of solar voltaics is interesting and a great sustainable step for the future, I don't think a tent is the right application. As you mentioned, people going camping generally want to get away from technology and relax in the outdoors. I could see where this would be a good idea for tents when the camping being done isn't for pleasure but necessity. Army tents could really benefit from technology like this.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but laugh when I read this post. It really is sad the world we live in. I agree with you, I think people need a break from technology and this tent does not allow that. I agree with the practical purposes of the tent, but does society really need a tent that charges your cell phone?
